Catching up with Annie

Hello everyone!

It is wonderful traveling across our state and meeting with constituents like you. Here is an update on some of the important work I’ve been doing on your behalf:

NSA Industries to expand, bring jobs to the North Country

I am thrilled that NSA Industries is expanding to the Groveton Mill site, bringing as many as 60 jobs to New Hampshire’s North Country. Two years ago, I worked with mill-site owner Bob Chapman to convene a working group of federal, state, and local planners to develop plans to redevelop the mill, which closed in 2008, costing the North Country more than 300 jobs.  In the months that followed, the group applied for and secured more than $1 million in federal grants from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the  U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development, and the Northern Border Regional Commission, and this past year, the group proposed and passed a town warrant article for $400,000 to restore water and sewer service to the site.  These efforts paved the way for NSA Industries, based in St. Johnsbury, VT, to expand its metal fabricating and machining operations to Groveton, a village within the Town of Northumberland.

This expansion sends a clear message that the North Country is open for business.  I am proud to have worked with leaders from throughout the region to bring this employer to town, and I look forward to continuing our work together to bring jobs and opportunity to the North Country.

2016 Congressional Law Enforcement Awards

Recognizing those honored with Senator Shaheen, Senator Ayotte, and Congressman Guinta.

I was pleased to co-host the Congressional Law Enforcement Awards in Concord on October 14th with Senator Shaheen, Senator Ayotte, and Congressman Guinta, and to recognize the law enforcement community for their selfless acts. Each and every day, law enforcement officers and first responders put themselves in harm’s way in order to keep our citizens and our communities safe from harm and danger. I know that all over New Hampshire, officers are going above and beyond – especially this year, with the heroin epidemic threatening families and communities every day. As the Representative for New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District, I am dedicated to working with and advocating on behalf of the men and women who protect our families and preserve our safety.

Promoting the Addiction Recovery through Health Accounts Act

Across New Hampshire and the country, the opioid epidemic is devastating communities and families. Yet, only one in ten Americans seeks the treatment they need to overcome substance use disorder. While I’m thankful that treatment options are becoming more readily available, many families still struggle to access those options because of rising health care costs. That’s why I am promoting the Addiction Recovery through Family Health Accounts Act (H.R. 6262), which I joined Congressman Tom MacArthur (NJ-03) to help introduce. This legislation would permit family members to use funds in employer-based health accounts and flexible savings accounts to pay for addiction treatment for any relative, even if he or she is not a dependent. We must ensure families have the flexibility and choice to use all available resources to protect their families from this deadly epidemic.

Have a great rest of the week, and thanks for everything you do to make New Hampshire such a wonderful place to live!

Sincerely,
