Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) joined Members of the House Democratic Women’s Working Group and Democratic Caucus in wearing white at President Trump’s speech to a Joint Session of Congress. Kuster and her colleagues are wearing white to show their commitment to protecting women’s rights. White was the official color of the suffragette movement and serves as a reminder to continue the ongoing fight to attain equal rights for all women.

“I’m wearing white tonight to stand up for the values and policies that are important to women and their families in New Hampshire and around the country,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “I’m proud to join my colleagues to honor the contributions of the suffragettes and women over the decades and say in one loud voice, ‘we will not allow the clock to be turned back on the progress that has been made.’ Tonight we’re going to let President Trump know that women around the country are watching and listening.”

“We wear white to unite against any attempts by the Trump Administration to roll back the incredible progress women have made in the last century, and we will continue to support the advancement of all women.  We will not go back,” said Congresswoman Lois Frankel, Chair of the Democratic Women’s Working Group.

Members who wear white are saying loud and clear that the nation will not go back on women’s rights. Members are fighting for:

• Access to affordable healthcare, including reproductive health services like those offered by Planned Parenthood
• A woman’s right to make her own health care decisions
• Equal pay for equal work
• Paid sick leave and family leave
• Quality, affordable child care
• A secure retirement
• Lives free from fear and violence.
