Concord, N.H. – Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) today released the following statement marking the fourth anniversary of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

“With the passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act four years ago, our country took an important step toward affirming a basic standard of fairness: equal pay for equal work. By restoring the right of women and all workers to fight unfair pay in court, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act marked a major victory in the struggle for justice and equality in our country.

“As we look back on this anniversary, we must also keep looking forward, knowing that the fight against pay discrimination is not over. For all of the progress we’ve made as a country, women still earn just 77 cents on the dollar. That doesn’t just affect women – it affects families. Especially in these tough economic times, smaller paychecks for women make it harder for families to purchase health care, send their kids to college, and save for retirement.

“As we mark this anniversary, we celebrate the passage of this landmark legislation and recommit ourselves to working together to fight pay discrimination wherever it exists.”
