Kuster Awards New Hampshire Student Stephen Baird with Bronze Medal Congressional Award
Concord, N.H.,
January 23, 2015
This morning, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) presented a Congressional Bronze Medal Award to Hancock, New Hampshire student Stephen Baird. Stephen earned the award after completing challenges in four categories: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration. “I was so pleased to recognize Stephen’s achievements by presenting him with a Bronze Medal Congressional Award this morning. The Congressional Award program gives our young students a chance to challenge themselves, and reach personal goals that are meaningful to them. Stephen’s dedication to achieving his goals, as well as his deep commitment to serving his community and helping those around him, are to be truly commended. I was honored to meet with him during this morning’s ceremony.” The Congressional Award program was established in 1979 to recognize young individuals who display drive, achievement, and service to their communities. Individuals competing for the award set their own personal goals, and are presented with their awards once they have completed their challenges. In order to fulfill challenges within each of the four award categories, Stephen volunteered at a local after school program and served as Den Chief at a summer camp for Cub Scouts. He worked as a Hometown News Correspondent at the 2013 National Scout Jamboree, and earned the Medicine, Astronomy, Farm Mechanics, and Plumbing Merit badges during camp. He also tackled his physical fitness challenge by improving his stamina through walking; he increased his standard walking length from two miles to five miles. Congresswoman Kuster is pleased to present Congressional Awards to young individuals who partake in the program. Students who are interested in participating should contact the Congresswoman’s Concord office at 603-226-1002 for more information. ### |
