Kuster Calls on President Trump to Appoint Head of National Drug Policy Office

**Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) coordinates federal response to drug crisis, including law enforcement, treatment, recovery, and prevention education**

**The head position at ONDCP has yet to be filled by President Trump**

Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), the founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force, is urging President Donald Trump to promptly fill the director position at the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). The ONDCP is critical to coordinating the federal response to the opioid epidemic that is negatively impacting communities throughout New Hampshire and the country. During the campaign, President Trump repeatedly expressed his willingness to seriously address the opioid epidemic.

“Throughout the effort to stem the growth of the heroin and opioid epidemic in New Hampshire and across the country, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has been a critical ally of the states and communities that are fighting to save lives,” wrote Congresswoman Kuster. “We need someone leading ONDCP who understands the depth of this crisis and how we must work together to stop it.  I stand ready to partner with you and your Administration to combat opioid misuse across the country and look forward to meeting with the new ONDCP director in the very near future.”

Kuster continued, “During your campaign visits to New Hampshire, you repeatedly discussed the seriousness of the opioid epidemic and willingness to work to find a solution. I hope you’ll honor that commitment by fully staffing the ONDPC.”

Congresswoman Kuster is the co-founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force, and has been at the forefront of the fight to address the heroin and opioid crisis at the federal level and in New Hampshire. She has been an outspoken advocate for the need to support medical, law enforcement, treatment, and recovery efforts.
