Kuster Statement in Observance of Memorial Day
Washington, D.C.,
May 29, 2017
Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, released the following statement in observance of Memorial Day: “On Memorial Day, we reflect on the incredible sacrifices of the men and women who have served our nation in uniform. Our servicemembers represent the spirit of service and commitment that makes the United States of America the greatest nation on Earth. Those who have made the ultimate sacrifice deserve an eternal place in our hearts. We can never forget what they have given so that we may enjoy the freedoms we hold dear. We must also remember that countless families grieve for their sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, who have given their lives in our defense. The strength, character, and pride with which these families carry themselves is truly inspiring. As a member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee I’m committed to honoring the fallen and supporting those who return home. Today, I join with all of the Granite State in remembering our brave servicemembers who have given their lives for all of us.” Congresswoman Kuster has served on the U.S. House Veterans’ Affairs Committee since taking office in 2013, and serves as the Ranking Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee. As Ranking Member, she pushes for increased transparency at the VA and helps to lead the charge in Washington on the need to improve access to care for veterans across the country. Kuster’s father, Malcolm McLane, received a Purple Heart during his service in WWII. He flew 63 missions in his P-47 fighter plane before being shot down in the Battle of the Bulge on Christmas Eve in 1944. He spent the last six months of the war in a German prisoner-of-war camp. ### |
