Kuster Statement on Appointment of Special Counsel to Investigate Russian Interference in the 2016 Elections
Washington, DC,
May 17, 2017
Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller III as special counsel to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election: “The appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller III as special counsel to investigate Russian interference in the presidential election is a step in the right direction,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “The American people deserve to know the extent and circumstances under which Russia tampered in our elections and Mr. Mueller has the experience and respect necessary to lead a robust investigation. However, I remain supportive of an independent bipartisan commission to investigate this matter for the sake of confidence in our institutions.” Earlier today, Kuster signed a discharge petition to force a vote on bipartisan legislation, the Protecting Our Democracy Act. This legislation would create a 12-member, bipartisan, independent commission to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. ### |
