Kuster Welcomes Expected Announcement of Harriet Tubman to Replace Andrew Jackson on the $20
Washington, DC,
April 20, 2016
This afternoon, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement ahead of Treasury Secretary Jack Lew’s anticipated announcement that abolitionist Harriet Tubman will replace President Andrew Jackson on the front of the $20 bill: “I am thrilled to hear that the Department of the Treasury is expected to use this opportunity to honor the important role that women have played in shaping our nation’s history by selecting Harriet Tubman to be on the face of the $20 bill. This is a historic day for women, as well as for African Americans, who have long fought to improve equality and civil rights here at home. By including women in our paper currency for the first time in history, young girls will now be able to see an inspiring woman on the bill and know that they too can achieve great things. I was proud to support the legislation that helped bring about this change, and I encourage the redesign and introduction of the bills to happen as soon as possible.” ### |
