Kuster Votes to Reauthorize the FAA and Strengthen America’s Aviation Systems

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) applauded the passage of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, comprehensive, bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and aviation infrastructure improvement and safety programs through 2028. The legislation provides a framework to maintain America’s leadership in aviation safety and aerospace innovation, strengthen the aviation workforce, improve consumer protections and accessibility, and make significant investments in sustainability and resiliency.

“I’m pleased to see Congress come together to reauthorize the FAA and ensure the United States remains a leader in aviation safety and innovation for years to come,” said Kuster. “This critical legislation will help strengthen and grow our aviation workforce, modernize our nation’s aging airport and aviation infrastructure, and dramatically expand consumer protections and accessibility, creating a safer and more reliable travel experience for all.”

The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 includes several priorities championed by Kuster, including:

  • Increasing funding for the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which funds new aviation and airport infrastructure improvement and modernization projects;
  • Establishing a task force to oversee and advise the FAA on programs to support the aviation workforce’s mental health and well-being;
  • Increasing funding for the FAA’s workforce development grants;
  • Mandating semi-annual progress reports to Congress on the FAA’s work to remove and replace per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) foam and equipment; and
  • Expanding consumer protections by requiring airlines to refund passengers with nonrefundable flights when their flight is canceled, significantly delayed, or changed.
