Protecting What's Important to New Hampshire

Dear Friend,

This week, I had the opportunity to meet with Granite Staters in Concord and Peterborough to discuss the issues important to their families. Unfortunately, New Hampshire is under attack by President Trump's misguided budget that would eliminate many programs critical to hardworking Granite Staters, and I'm fighting to protect those programs and resources.

On Monday, I visited the Concord Boys & Girls Club and was joined by community leaders, education providers, and mental health professionals to highlight President Trump's proposed budget cuts to after-school programs. These programs are critical to young people in our state, and their elimination would greatly diminish the ability for many children to receive the after-school care and assistance that so many families rely upon. President Trump's budget proposal carves a wide and devastating path, and simply put, these cuts are cruel and unacceptable. I will continue to work in Congress to protect programs that help Granite State children and families, and fight to make sure that these harmful cuts are never implemented.

I also had the opportunity to speak with environmental advocates in Peterborough and take questions about how the President's budget proposal would hurt New Hampshire's environment and economy. Participants were passionate about the need to protect New Hampshire, and united in the belief that when we expand renewable energy, the jobs created and money earned stays in the Granite State. It was clear amongst the small business and environmental leaders that climate change is real, and ignoring it isn't an option. We must act now to protect our state's vital tourism industry. President Trump's budget cuts, paired with his decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement, will harm rather than help New Hampshire.

On Wednesday Night, I attended Experience New Hampshire, one of my favorite events in Washington every year! Hosted by Senator Shaheen, the event is a fantastic way to show off some of the great local businesses, attractions, and products created in the Granite State. It's always wonderful to showcase the many things that make New Hampshire such a special place to live, work, and play.
