Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster

Representing the 2nd District of New Hampshire

Kuster Visits Manchester VA Medical Center

Tuesday, May 16, 2017 - 3:00pm

(Manchester, NH) – Yesterday, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, visited the Manchester VA Medical Center to meet with local and regional managers following the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General (OIG) recent report on issues regarding the inventory system, unsterile conditions in storage facilities, recalled supplies, and other challenges at the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC. Earlier this month, Kuster led a group of Democratic lawmakers on an oversight trip to the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, DC.

“My number one priority is ensuring the safety of veterans receiving care from the VA,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “I was deeply troubled by the report of unsanitary conditions and mismanagement that jeopardized patient safety at the Washington, DC VAMC. We need to ensure that the problems we saw in Washington are not present in veteran medical centers throughout the country. I was encouraged by my tour of the Manchester VAMC and look forward to continuing to work with the VA to improve care for veterans in New Hampshire and across the country.”

“Manchester VA was pleased to have had the opportunity to show Congresswoman Kuster firsthand some of the excellent programs that are used at the facility designed to not only track equipment and supplies, but to enhance and ensure patient safety,” said Director Danielle Ocker. “Maintaining a close collaboration not only with Congresswoman Kuster, but with the entire New Hampshire delegation, has been a critical asset in support of our New Hampshire Veterans. I am proud of the work we continue to do here at the Manchester VA and I’m always honored to showcase the staff’s hard-work and dedication.”

Kuster was joined on the visit by:

  • Danielle Ocker, Director of the Manchester V.A. Medical Center
  • Stella Lareau, Congressional Liaison, Manchester V.A. Medical Center
  • Nathan Turnipseed, Deputy Program Manager, Supply Chain Transformation, Veterans Health Administration
  • Lisa Newell, Chief Logistics Officer, Department of Veterans Affairs VISN-1
