Congresswoman Annie Kuster Hosts Telephone Town Hall to Hear from New Hampshire Seniors

On the call, Congresswoman Kuster discussed her work to protect Social Security and Medicare

Last night, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) hosted a live telephone town hall to hear directly from New Hampshire seniors about the importance of protecting Social Security, Medicare, and other vital programs.

During the call, nearly 4,000 seniors from across New Hampshire’s second district shared with Congresswoman Kuster their own stories about why Medicare and Social Security are important to them, and discussed their thoughts on what Congress can do to better support these programs. The Congresswoman also highlighted her legislative efforts to protect the programs that New Hampshire seniors rely on.

“I was so pleased to host this telephone town hall, which gave me a chance to hear directly from New Hampshire seniors about the issues that matter most to them,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “One of my top priorities in Congress is to protect Medicare, Social Security, and other programs that are so vital to our seniors and veterans.  I was so grateful for the opportunity to hear from Granite Staters about what these programs mean to them, and about what I can to do on the federal level to help our New Hampshire seniors thrive.”

Among other topics, the Congresswoman discussed her opposition to using chained CPI to calculate Social Security, a move which could significantly reduce benefits for our seniors. She addressed how closing the Medicare Part D donut hole has saved New Hampshire seniors thousands of dollars in prescription drug costs; and she shared her ideas to create additional savings for our seniors by allowing the government to negotiate for cheaper prescription drugs for Medicare recipients.

Congresswoman Kuster regularly holds telephone town halls to hear from her constituents on a variety of issues. Last night’s call was the sixth telephone town hall Congresswoman Kuster has hosted since first being elected to office in 2012.
