Washington, DC,
April 10, 2014
– Last night, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (D-NH) escorted Nashua native Danielle Duchesne to this year’s Congressional Cherry Blossom Reception. Danielle is representing New Hampshire in the 2014 Cherry Blossom Princess Festival, and is being sponsored by the New Hampshire State Society. Last night’s reception was part of the annual Cherry Blossom Princess program, a weeklong series for young women who have been elected to serve as their state’s representative, or “princess.” During the week, Cherry Blossom princesses participate in a variety of leadership, educational, and service activities, and they are introduced to leaders and female role models in government, cultural, military, and business organizations who work in the Washington, D.C. area. “Danielle’s extensive leadership activities and commitment to New Hampshire make her an excellent role model for young women back at home,” said Congresswoman Annie Kuster. “I was thrilled to escort her to this year’s Cherry Blossom Congressional Reception, and I know I speak on behalf of all Granite Staters in saying we are proud to have her as our representative in this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival. I wish her the best of luck moving forward!” Danielle is a 2013 graduate of the University of New Hampshire. As a political science major, she became involved with the Model United Nations team at UNH, where she later served as President for two years. She graduated from UNH Cum Laude in May, and went on to serve as a staffer in Senator Kelly Ayotte’s (R-NH) Washington D.C. office. Danielle is also involved with the UNH Alumni Chapter in DC to keep close connections with her fellow Granite Staters. “It has been an honor representing New Hampshire throughout this year’s Cherry Blossom Princess Festival,” said Danielle Duchesne, the 2014 NH State Society Cherry Blossom Princess. “As a Nashua native, I certainly appreciate Congresswomen Kuster taking the time from her busy schedule to be my escort at the Festival’s Capitol Hill event, which gave me one more opportunity to brag about my New Hampshire to my fellow princesses from across the country.” This year marks the 66th annual Cherry Blossom Princess competition, which is a part of the national, annual Cherry Blossom Festival. This year’s National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the 102nd anniversary of the City of Tokyo’s gift of 3,000 cherry trees to the people of Washington, D.C., and serves as an enduring symbol of friendship between Japan and the United States. During the Festival, Duchesne and the princesses representing other states and several other countries participate in educational, leadership, and cultural activities that nurture international relationships and cultural exchanges. At the conclusion of the Festival, one of the princesses will be selected as the U.S. Cherry Blossom Queen at the Grand Ball by the spin of a wheel. ### |
