Kuster Announces $410,000 Rural Development Grant on Earth Day 2014

Department of Agriculture Approves Funds To Update Water and Waste Disposal Systems in Hinsdale

Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s decision to approve a Rural Development grant and loan to a mobile home park in Hinsdale to update its water and waste disposal systems. The $410,000 grant and $390,000 loan for water and waste disposal projects will help the Oak Hill Acres Cooperative maintain a safe water supply for the residents of this community.

“Rural communities across New Hampshire must have the necessary resources to maintain effective water and waste disposal systems. These funds are critical to helping Oak Hill Acres maintain a clean water supply and a healthy environment, and I’m pleased that USDA Rural Development has acted on the organization’s request for assistance,” said Kuster.

The 45-year old mobile home park was purchased in 2007 by the Oak Hill Acres Cooperative with the technical assistance of the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund’s ROCUSA program. The water and disposal systems currently serving the 47 units in the park experience leaks and failures and do not meet standards necessary to provide an adequate water supply. With the assistance of these Rural Development funds, the Cooperative will be able to make a series of improvements that will supply the residents with safe, reliable water and waste disposal systems.  In addition, the Cooperative can now increase membership by filling the 13 vacant sites, which will improve the park’s financial stability and sustainability.
