Kuster Announces $468,000 in AmeriCorps Funding for Concord

AmeriCorps grants will support community services and education in Concord

CONCORD N.H. – Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02), today announced that Concord has received $468,000 in AmeriCorps funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).  The funding will be used to put 184 AmeriCorps members on the ground in New Hampshire.

The 184 AmeriCorps members will serve with Campus Compact for New Hampshire, a program that works to improve public education outcomes through community service, and Goodwill Industries of Northern New England.  These members will tackle some of the toughest problems in Concord. They will provide psychological and educational services to children with emotional behavioral problems, and will work to increase student academic engagement and economic success.

“AmeriCorps members are a critical resource for the nonprofits, communities, and individuals they serve,” said Kuster.  “Through public engagement and service, we can come together to start solving many of the challenges Concord faces.  AmeriCorps members strive to help New Hampshire by uniting individuals behind a common goal, and I congratulate Campus Compact and Goodwill Industries on this grant award and thank all those who have answered the call to service by joining AmeriCorps.”

The 2014 AmeriCorps grant competition prioritized investments in economic opportunity, education, veterans and military families, disaster services, and continued a new initiative for governors and mayors.  AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 members in intensive service annually to serve through nonprofit, faith-based, and community organizations at 25,000 locations across the country. These members help communities tackle pressing problems while mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.
