SALEM, N.H. – Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced that the Salem Fire Department will receive a $64,775 federal grant through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. AFG grants are administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and are awarded to fire departments to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public and first responders. “This funding will help ensure that our courageous first responders in Salem have the resources they need to do their jobs as safely and effectively as possible,” Kuster said. “Our first responders willingly put themselves in harm’s way to save others, and we have a responsibility to make sure they have up-to-date equipment that allows them to serve our communities at the highest possible level.” Salem Fire Chief Kevin Breen said that the Department planned to use the investments to update important equipment. “We plan to use these funds to update critical, life-saving equipment that will enable us to continue providing quality fire and EMS services to the town of Salem,” Chief Breen said. AFG Grants are awarded through a competitive process that is overseen by fire service experts. Additional information on the AFG Program can be accessed here. ### Press Contact: |
