Kuster-Backed Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act Passes House

This evening, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 299, the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2019. Congresswoman Kuster is an original co-sponsor of the legislation, which would expand veterans benefits for 90,000 Navy veterans who served in the coastal waters of Vietnam and are impacted by toxic exposure as a result of their service. Kuster helped introduce the bill in January.

“For far too long the health problems of veterans who were exposed to toxic herbicides while serving in the territorial waters off the coast of Vietnam have been ignored,” said Kuster. “Today the House of Representative took an important step toward righting this wrong. This legislation will codify our promise to care for the men and women who have bravely served our nation in uniform. I urge the Senate to take up this much-needed legislation quickly and I look forward to continuing my efforts to ensure all veterans are able to access the care and services they deserve.”
