Kuster Statement on Failure of Republican Immigration Bill
(Washington, DC) – Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on the failure of the partisan Republican immigration bill known as Goodlatte II:
“Now that Speaker Paul Ryan and Republican Leadership in the House have twice voted and failed to pass their extreme, partisan immigration bills, it’s time that we come together behind meaningful, bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform,” said Kuster. “We can all agree that our immigration system is broken. I urge Speaker Ryan to bring forward the bipartisan USA Act, which would ensure strong border security, while also creating a pathway to citizenship for young Dreamers brought here as children and increasing the number of immigration judges to address the immigration backlog. Importantly, we must act to ensure that families seeking asylum are not inhumanely separated.”
This past weekend, Kuster toured the McAllen Border Patrol Station, the McAllen Centralized Process Center, and the Port of Isabel ICE Detention Center to observe conditions on the ground and the impact of President Trump’s Executive Action on the separation of families.
