Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster

Representing the 2nd District of New Hampshire

Kuster Statement on House Omnibus Spending Bill

May 3, 2017
Press Release

(Washington, DC) -  Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on the House vote to pass the Fiscal Year 2017 Omnibus Appropriations Act, a spending bill to fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year:

“I’m pleased that Republicans and Democrats were able to come together to pass this bipartisan budget,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “I was deeply concerned by President Trump’s budget proposal, which showed a blatant disregard for the needs of hardworking families in New Hampshire and across the country. The bill we passed today funds important programs that help communities continue to create jobs and grow economically, reduce violence against women, protect our air and water, and expand treatment and recovery services for those struggling with substance misuse. While this budget is a win for the American people, it is only a 6-month spending measure. I hope that in the coming months Congress can begin to look to the future and pass a fiscally responsible budget in September that makes smart spending decisions while maintaining programs vital to so many Americans.”

The Fiscal Year 2017 Omnibus Appropriations Act includes funding for many of Congresswoman Kuster’s priorities, including:

  •          Community Development Block Grants (CDBG)
  •          Northern Border Regional Commission
  •          Combatting the Opioid and Heroin Epidemic
  •          Violence Against Women Prevention and Prosecution programs
  •          Protecting clean air and water
  •          Supporting our veterans through job training and housing assistance
  •          Supporting our students by expanding Pell Grants
  •          Funding for the National Institutes of Health, Endowment for the Arts, Humanities, Public Broadcasting, and National Parks
