Kuster Statement on President Trump’s Meeting with Kim Jong Un

Jun 12, 2018
Press Release

(Washington, DC) - Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on yesterday's summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore:

“I’ve always advocated for diplomacy first, and the meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un could be an important moment in the peace process. I share the goal of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, and it’s critical that what comes next are legitimate steps to end North Korea’s nuclear program. The details of any agreement moving forward will be key including the timelines, parameters, and importantly the verification mechanisms. I’m cautiously optimistic that we can continue to engage with North Korea to deescalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula and reach an agreement that promotes the security of the United States and our allies while maintaining economic and diplomatic pressure on the brutal Kim regime.”
