Kuster Statement on Republican Effort to Shut Down Debate on Yemen Resolution

Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) voted against a measure that will prevent the House of Representatives from taking up legislation to address the U.S. involvement in the civil war in Yemen. The rule proposed by Republicans in the House was passed and will prevent action on legislation addressing the war in Yemen until the new Congress.

“The heartbreaking situation in Yemen is a stain on the conscience of the entire world,” said Kuster. “Yemen is a humanitarian disaster and Congress should speak in one voice to condemn efforts that are killing countless Yemenis and dooming millions more to famine. Children are starving to death in front of the eyes of the world. This cannot continue. Saudi efforts in Yemen are contributing to this crisis with support from the United States. We can no longer be complicit in this war that threatens to further destabilize the Middle East with one of the worst humanitarian crises of the 21st Century. I’m outraged that Republicans would prevent Congress from taking steps to end the death and destruction in Yemen.”
