Kuster Statement on Use of Tear Gas on Peaceful Protesters at White House
Concord, N.H.,
June 2, 2020
Today, Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on President Trump’s use of tear gas, flashbangs, and rubber bullets on nonviolent demonstrators exercising their First Amendment rights: “I stand with the millions of Americans exercising their First Amendment right to peacefully protest for an end to racial injustice and police brutality. I mourn with the family and loved ones of George Floyd and communities across our nation that feel the pain of institutional racism and inequality. “President Trump's use of tear gas and rubber bullets on Americans who are peacefully protesting is shameful and reminiscent of some of the darkest hours in American history. His eagerness to violate the rights and safety of these protesters so that he may pose for a photo op goes against the values ingrained in the U.S. Constitution. We must protect the rights of all Americans to demonstrate peacefully and do more to fulfill our nation's promise of equal liberty and justice for all.” ### |
