Kuster Votes to Remove U.S. Forces Not Authorized by Congress from Yemen
(Washington, DC) – Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) voted in favor of S.J.Res.7, a War Powers Resolution on Yemen, directing removal of U.S. Forces that have not been authorized by Congress. The measure previously passed in the Senate with bipartisan support. S.J.Res. 7 would not affect U.S. assistance with respect to the fight against Al Qaeda or ISIS.
“The situation in Yemen is heartbreaking and a stain on the collective conscience of the world,” said Kuster. “The bloody civil war has claimed the lives of thousands of innocent Yemenis and more than 20 million are threatened by famine as this humanitarian crisis escalates. The United States should not be a party to the reckless behavior of Saudi Arabia in Yemen. I’m encouraged that both the House and Senate have taken bipartisan action to rein in U.S. involvement in this devastating crisis.”
