Rep. Kuster Joins Introduction of Legislation to Ban Commercial Bear Poaching

Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) introduced the Bear Protection Act with Representatives Ted Lieu, Rodney Davis, and Glenn Thompson. This legislation would protect bears at risk of being poached for their organs as well as prohibit the import, export, possession, transport and sale of bear organs.

“As a proud member of the Animal Protection Caucus, I am deeply troubled by revelations that bears in the United States are being poached for internal organs.” said Rep. Kuster, “The demand for these organs has already devastated bear populations in Asia, and we must protect our bears in the United States. I am pleased to join my colleagues to introduce this bipartisan legislation that will proactively protect our bears by banning the trade and transport of these bear organs.”

A member of the Animal Protection Caucus, Rep. Kuster is an unwavering advocate for the fair treatment of animals. This bill is supported by Animal Wellness Action and the Defenders of Wildlife.
