Yesterday, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) attended the first hearing of the House Agriculture Committee, which featured testimony from Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and focused on the state of our rural economy.

Kuster spoke with Secretary Vilsack about the importance of USDA energy and conservation programs to New Hampshire farmers and the forestry community. She also asked the Secretary how USDA’s energy programs were hurt by Congress’ failure to pass a new, five-year farm bill last year, as well as how sequestration will impact the Department’s ability to support existing conservation obligations and expand the program to reach new farmers and communities.

As the first Representative from New Hampshire to sit on the House Agriculture Committee in seventy years, Kuster looks forward to working with Committee members on both sides of the aisle to develop common sense solutions that cut wasteful spending, create jobs and economic growth, and support New Hampshire’s agricultural community.

Kuster serves on the Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry, as well as the Subcommittee on Horticulture, Research, Biotechnology and Foreign Agriculture.
