Kuster Statement on SCOTUS Decision To Uphold the Affordable Care Act

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02), a member of the House Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee, released the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s 7-2 decision to dismiss the latest GOP lawsuit to strike down the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:

“Today, once again, the Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) – a crucial victory for Americans in the Granite State and across the nation. Despite Republicans’ repeated efforts to repeal this landmark health legislation in Congress and through the courts, the ACA remains the law of the land, and the crucial protections it provides remain in place.

“Thanks to the ACA, those living with a preexisting condition cannot be denied coverage or charged more for care, tens of millions of previously uninsured Americans are now covered, and young adults can stay on their parents’ insurance plans until they are 26. I look forward to working with the Biden-Harris administration to build on the progress we have made and expand access to quality, affordable health care for all Americans.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, President Biden created a special enrollment period for the ACA’s online Marketplace, which began on February 15, 2021 and remains open through August 15, 2021. Granite Staters who need coverage can visit HealthCare.Gov to sign up or make changes to their existing plan.
