Washington, D.C. — Today, Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02), a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, participated in a full Committee markup of three bills, including legislation she co-sponsored and helped introduce, H.R. 2467, the PFAS Action Act of 2021. This bill would set national drinking water standards, designate PFAS as a hazardous substance, and turn off the tap for new PFAS chemicals making their way through the EPA approval process.
“PFAS chemicals pose a serious threat to the health and wellbeing of communities in the Granite State and across the country,” said Rep. Kuster. “We need an all-hands-on-deck effort to keep these forever chemicals out of circulation and protect families and our environment. The bipartisan PFAS Action Act — of which I am proud to be an original cosponsor — answers urgent calls for action and takes bold, purposeful steps to equip our communities with the resources they need to clean up these toxic chemicals. I urge my colleagues to support this legislation to finally turn off the tap on new PFAS chemicals.”
A member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Kuster has been vocal about the need to address PFAS and other water contaminants in New Hampshire. In April, Kuster helped introduce the bipartisan PFAS Action Act of 2021 to set national drinking water standards and designate PFAS as a hazardous substance under the Superfund Program, the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act. Last week, she introduced the bipartisan No PFAS in Cosmetics Act, which would ban the use of harmful forever chemicals known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in cosmetics.
