NH Delegation Announces Nearly $25 Million to Expand Public Transit in New Hampshire
Washington, January 27, 2023
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen and Representatives Annie Kuster and Chris Pappas today announced $24,955,036 in public transit funding for New Hampshire. The funding comes in part from the Hassan and Shaheen-negotiated bipartisan infrastructure law, which provides the largest investment in transit ever. Senator Hassan was a member of the bipartisan group negotiating transit funding.
“We worked across the aisle to negotiate and pass into law the bipartisan infrastructure law because New Hampshire communities need significant funding to modernize and strengthen every aspect of our infrastructure,” said Senator Hassan. “I’m pleased to see additional funding coming to our state this year to expand public transit, which can help save commuters money, reduce traffic, and help more people get to work. I look forward to seeing how our state will use this and other bipartisan infrastructure law investments to support our communities and strengthen our economy.”
“The bipartisan infrastructure law is continuing to deliver for New Hampshire with this news of nearly $25 million heading our way to bolster public transit services across the state. We’re already seeing the law in action to support improvements in our community on everything from water infrastructure to roadways, so I’m thrilled we’ll soon have more resources to turn attention to public transit. These types of investments for New Hampshire are precisely what I had in mind during negotiations on this bill and it’s exciting to see that work come to fruition,” said Senator Shaheen.
“When we invest in the safety and longevity of our transportation infrastructure, our communities and our economy see the benefits,” said Representative Kuster. “I am thrilled to see this significant funding heading to New Hampshire to strengthen public transportation systems across the state. These federal dollars will not only make it easier to get from point A to point B, but they will also create new job and economic opportunities. I look forward to seeing the positive impact of these resources.”
“Public transportation must remain a reliable and affordable way for individuals to travel around their communities, and this funding is a critical investment in New Hampshire’s transit systems,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “I helped pass legislation that delivered these federal funds back to New Hampshire, and I will continue to support smart investments into our public transportation.”
