Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, the House passed S. 4367, the Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act of 2024. This legislation includes provisions from Congresswoman Annie Kuster’s (NH-02) H.R. 5104, National Dam Safety Program Reauthorization Act, ensuring ongoing federal support for New Hampshire’s dam safety efforts through the National Dam Safety Program. This program is particularly important in New Hampshire, which has more than 660 dams that are an average of more than 98 years old. “The National Dam Safety Program is an important tool to safely maintain our state’s aging dams,” said Kuster. “I am proud more than 390 of my colleagues voted to strengthen this program and help protect an important part of the recreational, safety, and power-generation infrastructure in New Hampshire and around the country.” Kuster has been a fierce advocate for expanding hydropower and improving dam safety throughout her historic 6 terms representing New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District. Provisions from her 21st Century Dams Act were included in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to provide $2.4 billion to rehabilitate, retrofit, or remove the more than 90,000 dams across the United States. ### |
