Hello Friends,
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. You may have seen in the news this week that students and protesters were arrested at Dartmouth College and the University of New Hampshire, and I want to update you on the situation.

I will continue to monitor the situation at Dartmouth College carefully.

Like many Americans, I was shocked by the vile attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians on October 7th, 2023. While I believe that Israel has the right to self-defense, I also have grave concerns about how Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government has prosecuted the war in Gaza, resulting in an unprecedented number of Palestinian civilian casualties. As a defender of the U.S. Constitution, I support students’ rights to freedom of speech and peaceful protest. However, these rights are not absolute, and the College has rules designed to protect the rights of all students to access their education fairly, without bias or discrimination. Freedom of speech and the right to peaceful assembly are the bedrock values of our country, but hate speech and antisemitism are not. No person should feel unsafe or be targeted because of their religious beliefs. You can read more here.

Thank you to the members of Congress, survivors, and advocates for joining my roundtable discussion.
|
Survivors of sexual violence face a lifetime of healing and recovery—it takes time to process these horrific experiences and heal just enough to come forward and seek justice. It took me nearly four decades to share my own story as a survivor. To recognize the end of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, my Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence held a roundtable to discuss what steps Congress can take to end the scourge of sexual assault in our country, hold perpetrators accountable, and support survivors while they heal, recover, and seek justice. You can read more about my roundtable discussion here.

I'm working to reform the outdated Medicaid Inmate Exclusion policy.
|
Here in New Hampshire, more than 50% of justice-involved individuals struggle with an opioid use disorder. It’s critical we expand access to treatment and recovery services and give justice-involved individuals the support they need to heal, recover, and successfully reenter their communities upon release.
This week, in the Energy and Commerce Committee, I urged my colleagues to support my legislation to reform the Medicaid Inmate Exclusion policy and help justice-involved individuals access the support they need.
You can read more about my legislation here.

These resources heading to our state will help save lives.
|
Also this week, I was proud to help announce an increase in State Opioid Response (SOR) funding to help turn the tide on the substance use disorder epidemic and expand access to treatment and recovery services.
This epidemic has impacted every community across New Hampshire, and every life lost to addiction and overdose is a tragedy. While we have made a lot of progress in tackling the substance use disorder crisis, more work remains, and this new infusion of funding will help save lives.
You can read more about this critical funding here.

Everyone deserves access to safe, clean drinking water, and the safety of New Hampshire’s drinking water is critical to the health and well-being of our communities and families across the state.
This week, I was pleased to see the Environmental Protection Agency announce that New Hampshire will receive significant funding made available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help identify and replace dangerous lead pipe service lines throughout the state, strengthening our communities and our economy.

Thank you to the staff and students at NHTI for meeting with me!
|
It was great to visit the New Hampshire Technical Institute’s (NHTI) Dental Clinic this week to discuss their Dental Program Modernization project. As the only accredited dental assisting program in New Hampshire, NHTI plays a critical role in preparing the next generation of dental professionals while providing essential services to underserved residents.
I was proud to support this project, which will enhance NHTI's services to its clients and community and expand training opportunities to help grow our dental workforce. This is a win-win that benefits all of us, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on our state.

I will always fight for New Hampshire’s brave firefighters and first responders!
|
Our firefighters and first responders go above and beyond the call of duty to keep our communities safe—it’s essential they have the resources to do their jobs safely. It was an honor to meet with the New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs this week to discuss their priorities and how Congress can support their work, and I look forward to our continued collaboration!

Announcing the 2024 Congressional App Challenge: The 2024 Congressional App Challenge is officially underway! This is a great opportunity for students to show off their skills by creating an original application in a variety of programming languages and on different platforms. I’m calling on all middle and high school students in New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District to put their skills to the test!
