This week, I traveled throughout New Hampshire’s Second District and met with Granite Staters to highlight funding I secured for Community Projects across the state. From building sidewalks to help make busy roadways safer to supporting mothers as they go through substance use treatment, these federal dollars are going to help our state move forward.

The need for accessible mental health and substance use disorder treatment has skyrocketed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic – we cannot turn our backs on Granite Staters in need.

On Tuesday, I sat down with NAMI New Hampshire to talk about the Connect Suicide Prevention Program, which I was proud to secure funding for in Congress. No one should have to go through a mental health crisis alone, and this program will help ensure that is the case and raise awareness about suicide prevention here in New Hampshire.

Thank you to the Hanover Town officials for showing me their progress and talking to me about the next steps for construction.

I appreciated meeting with City of Lebanon officials to discuss the need for this project and its importance for the community.

Later on Thursday, I was in Lebanon to see the Mechanic Street Sidewalk Project. From students walking to school to employees commuting to work, safe sidewalks and pedestrian throughways are critical to strong local infrastructure in Lebanon.

The Mechanic Street Sidewalk Project will ensure safe travel for Granite Staters on foot and in their cars on this heavily trafficked stretch of road. I was proud to secure federal dollars for this construction and support the City of Lebanon’s development.

It’s critically important that we support Granite Staters who are interested in recovery services – that’s why I was proud to advocate for this project.

Families Flourish is working to keep parenting women and their children together while providing family-focused residential addiction treatment. On Thursday, I sat down with leadership at the Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital to discuss this project and how it will impact our communities.

I was proud to work with Senator Shaheen to secure $500,000 in federal funding for this program to equip New Hampshire mothers and families struggling with substance use disorder with the support they need to recover and thrive. I will continue working in Congress and with local partners to address the addiction epidemic and expand access to treatment.

On Monday, I met with Granite Staters that my office has assisted and heard first-hand the positive impact my staff has had on their lives.

On behalf of my constituents across New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District, I thank the five New Hampshire Army National Guardsmen honored with the Purple Heart this past Sunday and their families for their service and sacrifice to our country.

My father, Malcolm McLane, was a Purple Heart recipient, and I was humbled to witness these brave soldiers receiving the recognition they deserve. God bless all of our service members, our veterans, and their families, and may God bless the United States of America.

I will continue working to ensure no Granite Staters have to choose between the care they need and affording other necessities.

I consistently hear from Granite State families about how the rising costs of insulin are forcing them to put their health at risk by cutting back on doses or skipping them altogether because it’s just too expensive. New Hampshire families should not face impossible decisions between their medications and their well-being. 

It was great to join Protect Our Care NH and other Granite State advocates on Wednesday to discuss the need to address the cost of insulin and legislation I supported to cap the price of insulin at $35 a month.

Safe, effective COVID-19 vaccines are saving lives in New Hampshire and across the country.
