We must never forget how close we came to losing our sacred American democracy.
|
I was one of the last Members to be evacuated from the House Gallery before Capitol Police had to block the doors, leaving two dozen of my colleagues locked in the House Chamber while insurrectionists swarmed.
As a witness and a survivor of the events of that day, I am eternally grateful for the 1,000 acts of courage by the Capitol and Metropolitan Police that protected Members of Congress, our Capitol, and ultimately our country. Every day, I am reminded that our nation’s future is too important to let extreme Republicans whitewash our history.

30 seconds. That was how much time separated us and the insurrectionists — the difference between democracy and chaos and between life and death for Members of Congress running for our lives as we dashed across the hallway and ducked into an elevator to safety.
January 6th represents many things in our nation’s history: how fragile our democracy is, the threat of the ‘Big Lie,’ and the danger of disinformation. But it also represents incredible hope that we can endure hardships and that our democracy is resilient and worth fighting for.
With the 2024 Presidential Election on the horizon, we must never forget how close we came to losing our sacred American democracy. We must never forget the bravery and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers who placed themselves in harm’s way to protect our freedom and our country. And we must never allow January 6th to be whitewashed by right-wing extremists who continue to push the ‘Big Lie.’
It is incumbent on all of us to recommit to upholding our democratic institutions, to respect the rule of law and the Constitution, and to abide by the peaceful transfer of power — the values and principles that make the United States the greatest country on earth. Read more about how close we came on January 6th in Punchbowl, WMUR, and USA Today.

Our country owes Liz Cheney a debt of gratitude for her patriotism.
|
It was wonderful to see my friend and former colleague, Liz Cheney, at Dartmouth this week.
Countless acts of courage prevented the worst on January 6th, and I’m incredibly proud of Liz’s patriotism and commitment to putting country over party in the aftermath of that horrific day.
After five hours of struggle between the police and the insurrectionists, the House did return to the chamber late that night to certify the election. Selfless leaders, including Liz Cheney and Hakeem Jeffries, insisted that we finish the work of the American people. Because of her, America woke up to the certification of the free and fair election of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Thanks to Liz, the Congressional Committee on January 6th and courtrooms across America have produced thousands of pages of testimony, countless depositions, and miles of video and security footage detailing the events of that day.

The next generation of jobs will require an understanding of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

This week, I toured the New Hampshire National Guard’s Science and Technology Academies Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Exploration (STARBASE) program in Pembroke. STARBASE is an exciting opportunity for young Granite Staters to get exposed to and learn important skills that will better prepare them to thrive in an ever-changing science and technology landscape. Thank you to our National Guard men and women's hard work and sacrifice defending our nation and saving lives, as well as for all of their creative and innovative ways to expose young Granite Staters to the much-needed skillsets of the future!

The Senate and Governor Sununu must soundly reject this cruel, misguided legislation.
|
Also this week, the New Hampshire House passed a cruel, misguided bill to ban gender-affirming care for minors.
I’m deeply concerned about the legislature’s attempt to insert the government into the private, personal lives of Granite State families. Intensely personal decisions like gender-affirming care should be made between doctors, parents, and their children — not politicians.
In the “Live Free or Die” state, we believe in less government interference in our private lives. I’ll keep fighting to ensure parents, doctors, and their kids can make the medical decisions that are right for their families.
I urge the New Hampshire Senate and Governor Sununu to reject this harsh attempt to legislate away personal freedoms.
