The ongoing mental health and addiction epidemic has touched every state in the country, including New Hampshire. This week, I joined my New Democrat Coalition (NDC) colleagues to endorse a slate of 22 bipartisan health care bills aimed at addressing mental health and substance use disorders.

This package of legislation will address the mental health and substance use crisis and expand access to treatment and prevention resources.

I will continue bringing the voices and priorities of Granite Staters to Congress.

Drug costs in the United States are on average 3 to 4 times higher than in other countries with comparable economies. That is unacceptable.

This week in the Energy and Commerce Committee, I spoke with Health and Human Services Secretary Becerra about steps Congress and the Biden administration can take to lower the cost of prescription drugs — measures like my legislation to increase the availability of lower-cost generic drugs.

No one in New Hampshire should have to worry about where their next meal will come from.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has a proven track record of mitigating hunger in New Hampshire and saving thousands of families from slipping into poverty. But, as I highlighted in the Agriculture Committee this week, we have a lot of work ahead to make nutrition assistance programs like SNAP more accessible for families who qualify. 

I look forward to working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ensure we enact common-sense reforms to SNAP to lift up families across the country so they can thrive.

This legislation will improve public safety, enhance clean energy production and grid resilience, and restore river ecosystems.

American families in New Hampshire and across the country are feeling the effects of high energy costs — that’s why I am working to bolster domestic production of clean energy and ease our reliance on foreign fossil fuels.

Thursday in the Energy and Commerce Committee, I questioned U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Granholm about steps we can take, like my Twenty-First Century Dams Act, to harness our nation’s untapped hydropower resources.

I was proud to vote for this legislation and urge the president to sign it into law without delay.

The United States stands with the people of Ukraine. On Thursday, Congress sent legislation to President Joe Biden’s desk to temporarily lift certain requirements and provisions to ensure the United States can equip Ukraine with the necessary supplies and resources to defend their country against Russia’s brutal invasion.

Our Granite State restaurants are essential to our state’s economy and way of life, and many are still feeling the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 treatments are available to eligible Americans across the country and may be easier to access than you think. Thanks to the hard work of our nation’s scientists and health care workers, we now have the medical tools to not only prevent the spread but also to decrease hospitalizations and the severity of disease for those who get COVID-19.

Tomorrow is Drug Take Back Day here in New Hampshire and across the country — a reminder of the importance of properly disposing of unused medication to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.
