Hanover, NH – Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) joined New Hampshire and Canadian business leaders and trade experts at the Hanover Inn to give remarks at the U.S. – Canada Business Council event on the United States – Mexico- Canada Agreement (USMCA). The USMCA is currently being negotiated between the Trump Administration and the House of Representatives with the intention of replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The Agreement covers a wide range of issues, including dairy, automobiles, medicine, labor, and intellectual property. Kuster supports modernizing and improving USMCA to ensure it includes strong labor enforcement mechanisms, reduces the cost of prescription drugs, and protects our natural resources and public health.

“Cross border trade fuels our small businesses and is vital to the health of our economy,” said Kuster. “It is critical that we modernize and improve upon the flaws of NAFTA, but we must do so in a careful and thoughtful way. I appreciate the opportunity to meet and hear from so many business leaders and trade experts today, and I will continue working to move New Hampshire’s economy forward so that it works for everyone.”

Kuster has received consistent updates on the USMCA negotiations from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who continues frequent meetings with Trade Ambassador Bob Lighthizer to discuss the agreement. Kuster has been a strong advocate for responsible, thoughtful trade policies that help Granite State workers and businesses succeed.
