North Woodstock, NH - Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) brought together local housing providers, business leaders, community planners, and other stakeholders to discuss housing needs in the Lincoln-Woodstock area and throughout the North Country. 

“Safe and affordable housing is absolutely essential for communities here in the North Country and throughout the Granite State,” Congresswoman Kuster said. “Rural housing is a lifeline for New Hampshire communities that not only helps to care for our elderly and most vulnerable but is critical to supporting our state’s economic development. Unfortunately, affordable housing in our country has long been underfunded, and our nation’s affordable housing stock is often outdated and in need of repairs. I am committed to working in Congress to ensure rural communities have access to the resources they need to provide affordable housing for Granite State families.”

Congresswoman Kuster was joined today by representatives from various local businesses, organizations, and government agencies, including USDA-Rural Development, Western White Mountains Chamber of Commerce, White Mountains Attractions, AHEAD Housing, Center for Business and Community Partnerships at Plymouth State University, and others.

A long-time advocate for affordable housing, Kuster earlier this year introduced legislation, the Housing Preservation Restoration Act, to help address the challenges facing residents receiving rental assistance through U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development. The Congresswoman has also worked to advance housing projects for homeless veterans in Plymouth, Keene and elsewhere throughout the state.

The roundtable discussion was part of Congresswoman Kuster’s three-day tour through the North Country, focusing on economic development and combatting the opioid epidemic in the Granite State’s northern-most region.
