CONCORD, New Hampshire — Members of New Hampshire's congressional delegation say they're pleased that the Food and Drug Administration will revise proposed food safety rules that many farmers say will put them out of business.

The rules proposed in January would require farmers to take new precautions against contamination, making sure workers' hands are washed, irrigation water is clean, and that animals stay out of fields. The FDA said Thursday that its thinking has evolved after hearing from farmers and significant changes are needed. It plans to publish revised rules by the summer.

U.S. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte and Rep. Annie Kuster, who joined dozens of other members of Congress in seeking the delay, praised the decision.
