Kuster Announces Support for Impeachment Inquiry

Today, Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement:

“This week, the American people had an important opportunity to hear directly from Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Mueller reinforced the troubling details outlined in his report: Russia attacked our democracy and interfered in our election to help Donald Trump, and the Trump Campaign welcomed that help. The Mueller report outlines evidence that President Trump and his campaign attempted to obstruct justice and interfere with the investigation into Russia’s attack on our democracy.  The Special Counsel reiterated that he did not exonerate the President, and that because of Department of Justice policy, he could not charge the President with a crime even if he had the evidence to do so.

“Given the Special Counsel’s testimony, and the evidence outlined in his report, I support the House of Representatives opening a formal inquiry.  Under Article 1 of the Constitution, the House of Representatives has the sole power to evaluate whether or not the President’s conduct warrants bringing articles of impeachment. I have not prejudged the outcome. I believe in the integrity of the process, and I believe it is my duty under my oath to the Constitution to ensure nobody is above the law.”
