Kuster: Bipartisanship, Compromise Needed to Address Budget Challenges

Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement today calling on Republicans and Democrats to compromise on a balanced, bipartisan plan to reduce the deficit, grow the economy, and help create jobs—while protecting seniors and middle class families.

Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement today calling on Republicans and Democrats to compromise on a balanced, bipartisan plan to reduce the deficit, grow the economy, and help create jobs—while protecting seniors and middle class families.

“From my first days in office, I have consistently called on both parties to work together and pass a balanced, bipartisan plan to reduce the deficit, grow the economy, and help create jobs—while protecting seniors and middle class families. That’s why I helped establish the United Solutions Caucus, a coalition of Republicans and Democrats who are committed to moving beyond partisanship and actually solving problems through compromise and common sense.

“Unfortunately, none of the budget proposals on the table this week reflect the type of bipartisan compromise that New Hampshire families expect and deserve. I am especially troubled by Chairman Paul Ryan’s budget, which would end Medicare as we know it, undermine critical investments in the middle class, and threaten our economic recovery.

“Now that both parties have offered proposals, it’s time for Republicans and Democrats to come together and negotiate a balanced, bipartisan plan that will reduce the deficit, help create jobs, and grow the economy. That type of responsible compromise remains the best and only way to address our fiscal challenges and move our country forward.”
