Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), the founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force, released the following statement on President Trump signing the INTERDICT Act into law. The bill ensures that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has the new screening devices, laboratory equipment, facilities, and personnel they need to detect and intercept fentanyl and other synthetic opioids. The INTERDICT Act, introduced by Rep. Niki Tsongas (D-MA) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and co-sponsored by Kuster, is one of the pieces of legislation on the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force's legislative agenda. Today, the Task Force announced its legislative agenda for 2018.

"The opioid epidemic is impacting communities throughout New Hampshire and the country and it is clear that we need a comprehensive approach to take on this crisis," said Congresswoman Kuster. "That means supporting law enforcement while expanding prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts. The INTERDICT Act will help US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reduce the flow of fentanyl and synthetic opioids from outside the country by giving CBP the necessary tools to detect and intercept these dangerous substances. Today the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force announced its legislative agenda for 2018, and I am pleased that already we’re successfully moving commonsense legislation that will help keep our country safe.”
