(Concord, NH) – Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report that found ending cost-sharing reduction (CSR) payments would increase premiums by 20% and increase the federal deficit by $194 billion by 2026:

“We know that we need to improve the Affordable Care Act so that people in New Hampshire and across the country can obtain healthcare that is affordable and accessible,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “An important part of reigning in costs is reducing the volatility in the marketplace by creating certainty for consumers and insurers. President Trump’s irresponsible threats to end cost-sharing reduction payments have been met with opposition from both Republicans and Democrats because we know this will only exacerbate challenges facing the ACA. Not only will ending CSR payments increase premiums, it will also increase our deficit. President Trump must end his crusade to destroy the ACA and instead support efforts to fix the law. I’ve outlined commonsense proposals to stabilize the health insurance marketplace and urge my colleagues to work together to improve the Affordable Care Act for all Americans.”

Earlier this year, Kuster helped unveil a five-part plan to improve upon the Affordable Care Act and stabilize the individual marketplace.
