Combating the Opioid Epidemic with Commonsense Solutions

On Wednesday, I joined my colleagues on the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations for a hearing to examine state efforts to curb the opioid epidemic. During the hearing, I addressed opportunities for future federal support at the state level and my work to reduce recidivism and end the cycle of addiction and incarceration. For too long, federal policies have stripped incarcerated individuals of their Medicaid coverage, preventing access to substance use disorder treatment in prisons and jails. This is counterproductive to our fight to end the opioid epidemic, which is why I am proud to have introduced bipartisan legislation to allow for Medicaid and its standard of care to be utilized within the criminal justice health care system. In New Hampshire, we have seen firsthand that providing treatment to incarcerated Americans saves lives and taxpayer money. This is a win-win for families, communities and our economy. Improving Veterans’ Access to Care

I applaud the House for passing a bipartisan measure on Monday to allow the Veterans Affairs Administration (VA) to broaden the ability of veterans to get the dental care they need.  This resolution was proposed as part of the VA Mission Act of 2018, which I proudly co-sponsored. After bravely serving our country, many veterans lack access to quality dental care, which is critical to overall health and wellbeing. I’m pleased the House came together to pass this commonsense measure and I will continue working to ensure those who have served our nation have the services and support they deserve.

Preventing Youth Suicide

On Tuesday, I joined Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Senator Maggie Hassan and Congressman Chris Pappas to announce the award of $735,844 in federal funding to the National Alliance on Mental Illness New Hampshire (NAMI NH) that will bolster the organization’s youth suicide prevention efforts throughout the state. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death for young people in New Hampshire, and we must do more to support them to save lives. NAMI’s work is critical to raising awareness for mental illness, fighting stigma, and saving lives through suicide prevention efforts. I’m pleased to announce these funds and I will continue working to secure resources that will help support Americans living with mental illness.

I have full faith in the seven Members who have been named Managers of the impeachment trial of the President. Led by Congressman Adam Schiff, I know that Representatives Jerry Nadler, Zoe Lofgren, Hakeem Jeffries, Val Demings, Jason Crow and Sylvia Garcia are up for the task of defending our Constitution and our democracy.

As your Congresswoman, one of my biggest responsibilities is supporting Granite Staters when they need help with federal agencies. I was contacted by Leidy, a constituent from Whitefield, who had an issue of concern regarding U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
