Increasing Public Participation at FERC

I joined Senate and House colleagues to introduce the Public Engagement at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Act, which would give the public an opportunity to play a part in forging our nation’s energy future by creating an office of Public Participation and Consumer Advocacy at FERC. I’ve long fought for greater community input at FERC, calling on the Commission and Kinder Morgan to include impacted communities in the planning and approval process of the proposed Northeast Energy Direct pipeline in 2015. This legislation will help ensure that local communities can weigh in on the impact of any new energy project that comes through their backyard.

Removing Barriers to Mental Healthcare

Yesterday, I joined my colleagues to co-sponsor H.R. 945, the Mental Health Access Improvement Act of 2019, which will stop people from aging out of mental healthcare when they qualify for Medicare. We know that expanding access to mental health services is crucial to tackling the opioid epidemic, and this legislation will help remove barriers that are preventing people from getting the treatment they need to rebuild their lives and contribute to our Granite State economy. 

Fighting for 9/11 Responders

I’m proud to cosponsor H.R. 1327, the Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act. On one of our country’s darkest days, 9/11 responders were there and risked their lives to help others. With cancer rates rising in the 9/11 first responder community, we cannot turn our backs on our heroes. It’s time for Congress to pass this legislation and give these brave Americans and their families the peace of mind they deserve in knowing that we will always be there to help. 

Recognizing Vietnam Veterans

We are forever grateful to all our veterans for the sacrifices they have made. Nearly 45 years ago, thousands of brave service members returned home from the Vietnam War after valiantly serving our nation. These men and women had hopes and goals and aspirations, and instead of pursuing them, they went to war and sacrificed for us. As a small token of gratitude to those who served in Vietnam, my office is taking part in the Vietnam Veterans 50th Anniversary Pin Program.
