Wrapping up a great August in New Hampshire

Dear Friend,

Preventing Youth Substance Abuse

At the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley

I had the opportunity to visit the Boys and Girls Club of Souhegan Valley on Monday and meet with their leadership to hear about the Club’s efforts to prevent substance misuse among young people. I was impressed by their initiatives on Adverse Childhood Experiences and their ongoing Community Action for Safe Teens Coalition – funded through a Drug Free Communities Grant that I was proud to support in Congress. It was a joy to hear about the club’s good work and I’m grateful for all they do for the Granite State and our youth!

Holding Pharmaceutical Companies Responsible for Their Role in the Opioid Crisis

On Monday, a District Court ruled that Johnson & Johnson – a major drug maker – is responsible for fueling the opioid crisis in Oklahoma. The ruling is a positive sign for the many states – including New Hampshire – that are working to hold drug manufacturers accountable for their role in our nation’s opioid epidemic. We must hold pharmaceutical companies responsible for their role in marketing and encouraging high rates of opioid prescribing, leading to devastating effects on families and communities across our nation. Modernizing Our Future Workforce

I also got to visit Hitchiner Manufacturing Company in Milford on Monday to meet with leadership and discuss their partnership with the new Milford High School Career and Technical Education Center. This partnership allows students to participate in a combined classroom learning experience with a paid externship with Hitchiner. I’m elated to see this partnership kick off to help modernize our future workforce and encourage students to learn valuable skills.

Growing Our Economy

It was great to visit MilliporeSigma manufacturing in Jaffrey on Tuesday to tour their impressive facilities and hear about their expansion plans. MilliporeSigma employs nearly 1,000 area residents and I look forward to working with them to expand economic opportunity and grow our regional and state economy. You can read more about my visit here.

Improving Health Care Delivery

On Tuesday, I also visited Monadnock Community Hospital to tour the facility and meet with leadership to discuss efforts to improve health care delivery for local residents. I deeply appreciated the opportunity to sit down with leadership and hear more about their work to remove barriers to substance misuse treatment and expand health services in rural areas. Monadnock Community Hospital plays an essential role in providing care to the surrounding communities, and we had a productive conversation about the challenges they face in the region including an increasing need for substance misuse treatment and workforce shortages. I look forward to bringing their insights back to Washington as I work with my colleagues to ensure Americans have access to the quality, affordable health care they need.
