In April, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Granite Staters and visiting local businesses across our district to discuss some of the most important issues facing our state, such as improving access to affordable healthcare and creating good-paying jobs. I enjoyed spending the last few weeks discussing what we can do to prioritize issues I hear about most often from New Hampshire families.
Improving Access to Healthcare
Over the last few weeks, I had the opportunity to sit down with Granite Staters at facilities across our district to discuss how we can work together to strengthen healthcare in our state and across the country as part of my Healthcare Listening Tour. As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, I’m committed to lowering the costs of healthcare and prescription drugs, expanding access to care, combating the opioid crisis, and ensuring protections for vulnerable Americans. My Healthcare Listening Tour allows me to bring the perspectives of Granite State families, recovery providers, and healthcare professionals to Congress as I work to strengthen healthcare in our state and across the country.

Recently, I was proud to join Planned Parenthood President Dr. Leana Wen, Senator Shaheen, Congressman Pappas and advocates to stand up for the reproductive healthcare rights of women and families across New Hampshire. The Trump Administration’s proposal to impose a domestic gag rule on the Title X family planning program is a partisan attack on women’s reproductive rights and threatens access to comprehensive healthcare services for low income women and families in New Hampshire and nationwide. I was proud to stand with these advocates as we fight this proposed rule and advocate for women and families’ access to healthcare.

Encouraging Workforce Development in the Granite State
I am encouraged by the progress we have made in economic and workforce development in our state, but we can do more. Over the last few weeks, I met with Granite Staters and local business leaders to discuss what we can do to assure every New Hampshire family can succeed and get ahead.
Claremont’s Red River Computers has 20 years of innovative tech integration under its belt. Recently, their staff was kind enough to show me their facility where we explored how we can partner to advance workforce development across New Hampshire.
SoClean in Peterborough employs 100 Granite Staters with plans to hire at least 100 more within the next year. I enjoyed touring their facility and learning about their products, which sanitize medical equipment. I was impressed by the company’s success and our shared interest in working to ensure that every New Hampshire resident has the tools necessary to succeed.
I also spoke with students and faculty at Milford High to learn more about the school’s manufacturing externship program. Milford is providing New Hampshire’s future workforce opportunities to explore careers in manufacturing. Expanding skills training and educational opportunities is vital to future success in workforce and economic development - I am grateful to Milford High for providing students with the tools they need to succeed.

Recently, in Peterborough, I joined the Contoocook Valley Board of Realtors to discuss economic development in the Granite State. Improving access to broadband internet and 21st Century infrastructure is key to this success and I am committed to supporting efforts so New Hampshire can maintain its competitive edge.
I had a lovely afternoon in Lancaster where I toured the town’s Main Street, including several local businesses. Lancaster’s Main Street recently underwent a redevelopment program in which several local businesses and buildings received grants to improve or expand the spaces they occupy.
Last week, I toured Littleton’s Moore Hydro Dam, where I learned about the dam’s operations and discussed New Hampshire’s energy infrastructure with staff. The Moore Dam is part of the largest hydro system in New England, which employs 38 Granite Staters alone.

I joined Congressman Chris Pappas to meet with the dedicated pro-bono attorneys, non-profit partners, and social justice advocates who make up New Hampshire Legal Aid. These Granite Staters work tirelessly to provide civil legal services to those in need across our state. It was a pleasure to meet with such compassionate folks.
It was my honor to celebrate the recent grand opening of Sunapee Cove Assisted Living’s new memory care and support facility. As a caregiver for my own mother who lived with Alzheimer’s disease, I was pleased to meet dedicated caregivers and residents at Sunapee Cove. We must ensure that every caregiver has the support they need to provide care for loved ones as well as those in need of assistance. During my visit, I was honored to meet Hazel, a Granite Stater currently celebrating her 110th year of life!

I had a productive discussion with the Plymouth Rotary Club where we explored issues important to the region. I appreciated their thoughts about how we can work together to grow the local economy, support our veterans, and ensure affordable housing for seniors.
