Happy Summer! The season officially began last Wednesday, and with our natural beauty, fun and entertainment, there's no better place to be than the Granite State. I hope you are able to get outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather.

Last week, I visited River Valley Community College (RVCC) in Lebanon to discuss my legislation, the Workforce Development Investment Act, which would help workers gain the skills they need for careers in the 21st century economy. During my visit, I spoke with graduates of WorkReadyNH, which provides training in the specific skills employers are seeking in their current and future employees. Innovative programs like WorkReadyNH are exactly the types of collaborative efforts that the Workforce Development Investment Act would expand and promote. Job training and partnerships between community colleges and employers are a commonsense way to get companies the employees they need and workers the careers they desire. If we can help get people the necessary skills for the 21st century economy and place them with a local business, then we'll help expand opportunity, create jobs, and grow our economy. It's a win-win-win.

Later in the week, I joined my colleagues in speaking out against the Senate Republicans' newly unveiled healthcare bill, which they released to the public on Thursday after secretly drafting it behind closed doors. This legislation, simply put, is cruel and heartless, and it would threaten access to healthcare for thousands of Granite Staters and millions of Americans.

I've said all along that the Affordable Care Act is not perfect and I'm eager to work across the aisle to repair it. In the meantime, I'll continue to stand up for the people of the second district and their need for affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare.
