Fighting for Justice for Sexual Assault Survivors

I’m relieved that Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta has resigned his position. It should not have taken Acosta this long to leave his post, but I am glad to see him go. The American people deserve better. Secretary Acosta’s role in the miscarriage of justice involving Jeffrey Epstein, who is facing sex trafficking charges, is indefensible. These charges are horrific and sickening. We need to take allegations of sexual misconduct seriously, and I will continue my efforts to combat sexual violence and support survivors in their fight for justice. 

Combating Military Sexual Trauma

On Thursday, I sat down with the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence to host a roundtable discussion with experts on Military Sexual Trauma. Recent reports show a troubling rise in these assault cases, and I was glad to have the opportunity to explore how Congress can help prevent assault in our armed forces and provide survivors the tools they need to heal. Preserving and Strengthening the Affordable Care Act

On Monday, I joined Senator Shaheen, Senator Hassan, and Congressman Pappas at Amoskeag Health in Manchester to discuss the importance of preserving and strengthening the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in the face of the Trump Administration’s efforts to strike the health care law down in court. I’m grateful to the Granite Staters who joined us to share their stories about how the ACA and access to quality, affordable care has impacted their lives. I’ll continue working to ensure that everyone can get the care they need.

Fighting for Clean Water

I joined Congressman Pappas to introduce the Clean Water Standards for PFAS Act last week. This legislation will reduce PFAS discharge and hold polluters accountable by adding PFAS to the Clean Water Act’s Toxic Pollutants List, allowing the EPA to regulate its release in our water systems. Toxic PFAS chemicals jeopardize the health and wellbeing of families across the Granite State and our country, and we must rise to the challenge by holding polluters accountable and supporting comprehensive solutions to keep dangerous pollutants out of our nation’s waterways. 

I’m extremely disappointed over the White House’s announcement of a potential veto of the House version of the defense authorization bill, which would ban the Department of Defense from using firefighting foam containing PFAS chemicals. More action is necessary to prevent future water contamination. This administration should be making every effort to work with Congress to make sure families near these facilities can trust their tap water.

As your Congresswoman, one of my biggest responsibilities is supporting Granite Staters when they need help with federal agencies.
