Dear Friends,
This week Congress sent the 21st Century Cures Act to the President’s desk for his signature. This bill includes $1 billion in funding to support efforts to tackle the opioid epidemic, in addition to measures to improve and coordinate medical innovation and research at the National Institutes of Health, Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Importantly, New Hampshire will be able to use the funding in ways that are most helpful to the needs in our communities. As the co-founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Heroin Epidemic, I was proud to help pass this critical legislation, and I am pleased that this bill will provide such critical funding to those on the frontlines of this crisis.
Speaking about the 21st Century Cures act on the House Floor. Watch my full remarks here.
Far too many families in the Granite State have been impacted by the opioid epidemic. We have long known in New Hampshire that this crisis needs to be treated like the public health emergency it is, and the passage of this bill shows that both the House and Senate agree. There is still more work to be done, but through the passage of the Cures Act, we have taken an important step in the right direction!
As we look to the New Year, please be assured that I’ll continue to fight to support law enforcement, education, prevention, treatment, and recovery service in our state to help end the addiction crisis.
Sincerely,
