As we enter 2015, I wanted to take a moment to look back at my first term representing New Hampshire’s Second District and look forward to my goals for the next two years.

A Look Back at my First Term

When I was first elected two years ago, I pledged to try to put an end to the partisanship that had come to define Congress. I worked to end the gridlock and focused on the priorities of Granite Staters: creating more jobs for our workers, supporting our veterans, and making education more accessible for our young people.

Shortly after being sworn in, I helped found United Solutions, a coalition of Republicans and Democrats focused on working together to address challenging issues facing Congress.

I worked with both my Republican and Democratic colleagues on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee to help lead an investigation into the outrageous scandals within the Department of Veterans Affairs, and together we passed into law comprehensive reforms to the Veterans Administration. And, by partnering with a Republican colleague from Indiana, I was proud to pass into law enhanced protections for whistleblowers who report sexual assault in the military.

I also worked across the aisle in the Agriculture Committee to pass legislation that supports organic and local farmers, strengthens our rural economy, and conserves our state’s wildlife and natural resources.

While Congress left far too much work unfinished, these positive developments prove that Congress can still function when Republicans and Democrats work together to solve problems. During my second term, I look forward to building on this progress and continuing to fight for Granite Staters in Washington.

My Goals for the Future

My goals for the new Congress include fostering local economic growth and job creation through investments that strengthen the middle class, like the expansion of passenger rail into New Hampshire and the establishment of a Manufacturing Innovation Hub in our state.

In addition, I will continue to advocate on behalf of our nation’s veterans, seniors, and students. I am committed to supporting renewable energy and working to end climate change. From reforming our campaign finance system, to reducing sexual assault on campus, to ensuring that women receive equal pay for equal work, I will keep pushing for change.
