Kuster Statement on Interim Report from President Trump’s Opioid Commission
Concord, N.H.,
August 1, 2017
(Concord, NH) – Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), the founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force, released the following statement on yesterday’s announcement of an interim report by President Trump’s opioid commission: “It’s long past time President Trump’s opioid commission released its initial report, but unfortunately there is little new in its findings. For years, I’ve been working across the aisle on the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force to advance commonsense policies to bolster our response to the opioid epidemic. I’ve been encouraged by the willingness of Republicans and Democrats to put aside partisan differences to come together on this issue. Governor Christie’s report recommends several proposals that were outlined by the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force in our legislative agenda just a month ago. I’m hopeful that the Administration will consult with our Task Force and begin to take concrete steps to bolster access to prevention, treatment, and recovery services, while supporting law enforcement’s interdiction efforts.” In June, the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force led by Representatives Annie Kuster (D-NH), Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Donald Norcross (D-NJ) released its legislative agenda for the 115th Congress. The agenda includes commonsense, bipartisan legislation to address the opioid epidemic from the perspective of law enforcement, prevention, treatment, and recovery. The bills included in the agenda include Jessie’s Law, the STOP OD Act, the Addiction Recovery Through Family Health Accounts Act, Road to Recovery Act, the INTERDICT Act, the Synthetic Drug Awareness Act, the CRIB Act, and the VA Prescription Data Accountability Act. ### |
