(Concord, NH) – Today Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02), the founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force, blasted the decision by President Trump to suspend the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP), which promotes scientifically supported practices and programs to treat substance-use disorders and mental disorders. NREPP is run by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“President Trump and his Administration do a lot of talking about their efforts to take on the opioid epidemic but their actions tell a very different story,” said Kuster. “The decision to end the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices flies in the face of all commonsense and will undermine efforts to get people into effective treatment programs. There is bipartisan agreement that we cannot arrest our way out of the opioid epidemic and evidence-based treatment and recovery is crucial to getting people struggling with substance-use disorder the support they need. I’ll fight this misguided decision and continue to advocate on behalf of New Hampshire’s prevention, treatment, and law enforcement communities.”
